Hip hop has become a dominant force in the world of music, especially in South Africa. Nearly every day we make a discovery of a new artist, especially one who’s trying to forge their way into the industry by any means necessary. In this season of Risingwithsmiley.blogspot, I promise to expose you to some fresh talent that you've wondered where they actually come from. So stick around and you’ll find out who I'm talking about.

This week we make a discovery of a new artist that is locally brewed straight from Dwarsloop. One who’s prepared to make his mark no matter how you receive his music. Eagle Boy is a young up and coming rapper who loves doing music that is influenced by the circle of people who he hangs around with, such as other locally renowned rappers like Tumza van Kotsi and Gasoline. Eagle Boy then started rapping in 2013, and that was only in 7th grade. Fast forward nearly 3 and half years later and he’s still sticking to his guns.

He is not merely rapping for the sake of getting recognised, but also to prove to his family that this is not just a game. Inspiration from Cassper Nyovest and influences from Tumza van Kotsi really shaped his mental focus and drive to conquer this type of art.
This young man is also working on his first mixtape titled “A.L.P.H.A" and has so long dropped a single titled ‘ZumaR’ that he has solely dropped alone and has received radio play too. As soon as the whole project has dropped, you’ll definitely be the first to get feedback on.
Eagle Boy doesn’t discredit himself and wants to see himself amongst the influencers and become a prominent entrepreneur while still crafting his rapping skills on the side. He promises to continue with his hustle until he gets his big break, one way or another.

As a rapper who's turning 18 this year, he knows he’s got the skill to get one holding onto the edge at all times, as he promises to deliver both lyrical and commercial music to accommodate both listeners. He has so far worked with Tumza van kotsi and has another single on the way that he’s working on with T-boy killa, and Slang-G. And says his favorite song is “Swimming Pools" by Kendrick Lamar.
One thing he would like to see change from the current hip hop atmosphere is that “no other artist should limit themselves from what they love doing, no one can tell you that you cannot do both lyrical and commercial at the same time”. He wants to see himself running and owning his own record label ‘The Eagles Entertainment' which he has been establishing since 2015. Eagle Boy also wants to try his hand at producing So he can introduce a new sound to the game.

His last piece of advice for other young, up and coming artists is that “always work hard and hustle to the best of your ability, also remembering to stay true to yourself and write your own songs to get all the credibility you deserve”. You can follow and connect with Eagle Boy on...
